If you are willing to drive a few hours there is Ski Roundtop, Whitetail, Seven Springs and Hidden Valley resort. Ski Liberty has 16 slopes many of which are for beginners and intermediate skiers. Ski Liberty highest elevation is 1,190 which makes it easy to blow and maintain snow. Most of the ski areas in Pennsylvania are ski able from mid November till late March.

Lodging Around Ski Mountains:

If you are looking for a place to do night skiing liberty is your resort area near Gettysburg. Liberty mountain has a hotel at the base so if you need to stay over night you have many choices. I suggest staying in Gettysburg which is a short drive, the lodging rates will usually be less. Vacation Rentals are also a good option.

In Pennsylvania, the Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum Foundation includes the battlefield, the Cyclorama experience and the Civil War Museum. The National Park is over 6,000 acres and includes more than 1,400 sculptures, statues, tablets and markers. It is free and open to the public during daylight hours. For a fee, the Foundation offers guided tours which take 2.5 hours to complete or a CD guide for those who want to sightsee at their own pace. Free Park Service maps are available.
The battlefield is the place where 165,000 fought on both sides of the Civil War. It was a hard-won battle for the Union. It is also famous as the place where Lincoln delivered his most important speech of the war, the Gettysburg Address.

Over 1.5 million people experience the battlefield each year. Most visitors begin their trip at the Visitor Center, home to the Civil War museum and the Cyclorama. The Cyclorama is an experience of sight and sound. Narration guides viewers as they witness the war through sound effects and an original diorama of the battle. In 1884, artists completed a 377-foot, three-panel circular painting of the Gettysburg battle. This artwork eventually languished in a warehouse but was restored forty years ago. A 2003 restoration brought the oil painting much closer to its original beauty. The artwork accurately reveals aspects of the battle as well as the human cost of the war. The accompanying film, A New Birth of Freedom, is narrated by Morgan Freeman.

The Museum has twelve exhibit rooms. Artifacts, special displays, hands-on activities and short films combine to tell the story of the battle, the war and the times. The Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum Foundation also offers a tour of the retirement home of President Eisenhower. Combination tickets are available at the Foundation’s website.

There have been many legends and stories of ghosts and paranormal activity in Gettysburg. The strangest and most intriguing part is that the ghosts that are usually seen are that of old civil war soldiers and people of that era. Many other legends have ongoing stories in Gettysburg, like the Candlelight Sleepy Hollow of Gettysburg Walk or ghost stories told in grandma’s attic at 65 Steinwehr Ave. These experienced story tellers share that there are indeed ghosts in Gettysburg and people do see them rather regularly.

One of the main sightings people have been known to have, catching a glimpse of Civil War soldiers moving in formation one moment and vanishing the next. They hear wounded soldiers crying for help on the field and some see the faces of those that have been lying there since the battle. When traveling around certain parts of Gettysburg be cautious because you never known what might be around the corner or in the closet.

Another tour is the Candlelight Sleepy Hollow of Gettysburg tour (www.sleepyhollowofgettysburg.com) , the ultimate in storytelling. The tour consists of 2 parts a candle lit walk and a story time in grandma’s creepy old attic. For over 10 years Cindy Codori-Schultz and her team of well skilled story tellers have been gracing Gettysburg with the stories of the old soldiers and other ghosts that have been haunting around Gettysburg for years. A ghost tour is a perfect way to spend an evening, but don’t plan on sleeping because you might not be alone….
